Exchanging data according to the All Finance Data Catalogue (AFD)

Image

There is more and more electronic communication between insurance companies and third parties. To do this in an unambiguous way, the All Finance Data Catalogue (AFD) is the most important standard. It is a good thing that this standard exists! That is why Digitect, together with Comparity, is organising an AFD masterclass on 12 October.

This masterclass focuses on questions such as:

What are the basic components of the AFD?

How can I model web services based on the AFD?

Which functions in the insurance and claims handling process are supported by the AFD?

We are happy to give you a foretaste of this unique masterclass. SIVI opens the masterclass with the theme “The AFD now and in the future” .

Applying the AFD

The definitions of data elements laid down in the AFD are the basis for premium requests, quotations, contract applications, changes, renewal messages and claim notifications. They are also the basis for various reports that are made available, through traditional messaging, XML web services and the extranets of insurance companies, to parties such as underwriting agencies, intermediaries and claims handlers.

Technology needs a blueprint too

Exchanging data requires technical specifications, and they often take a lot of time and energy. In projects we often see programs being used that are not really suitable for writing specifications. Without the right tools, a lot of manual work is needed, which results in a high risk of human error and makes the time investment grow. You also run into obstacles such as version control. Management is difficult when you record specifications in Excel, for example.

The good news is that current technology offers all the building blocks to generate technical specifications systematically. By investing in your staff, and making sure they are able to create the blueprint with which technology and suitable tools are applied in the right way, you bring knowledge into your organisation. Developments in digital communication continue and keep modernising. Make sure your staff, and with them your organisation, keep moving too. With the right tools and knowledge of the applications, you can generate technical specifications easily and systematically, also according to a standard such as the AFD.

Would you like to know more about the AFD and learn how to easily generate technical specifications according to this standard? Sign up for our AFD Masterclass on Wednesday 12 October.
